How to Use the Slot HTML Element

Slot

The Slot HTML element is an integral part of the Web Components technology suite. A slot is a container that can contain one or more values, as well as global attributes. A named slot has a specific name, such as “data” for a slot containing data. This element is widely used to create reusable components in libraries. It can also be used to bind multiple values to the same slot. Here are some examples of how to use a Slot directive in your code.

The earliest use of slot is in the late 14c., when it refers to the hollow of the throat, just above the breastbone. It is derived from Old French esclot, which is of uncertain origin. A synonym, Old Norse slod, is also used. The term “slot” is first used in 1520s, but the word “slot machine” only came into use in the 1880s.

Slots accept cash or paper tickets with barcodes. A lever or button activates the reels, and winning combinations earn credits based on the paytable. Symbols on a slot machine vary depending on the game’s theme, but classic symbols include fruit, bells, and stylized lucky sevens. Most slot games have a specific theme and often have bonus features aligned with this theme. In addition to traditional symbols, modern slots can contain multiple symbols per reel.

The builtin amountOfMoney type maps amounts of money, durations, and numbers. However, ordinal numbers are not supported. Using custom slots types allows developers to define specific types of slots for utterances. For example, a location slot can mark locations in utterances. It’s also possible to add a slot that maps to the location of an entity. If the bot has to find the data for a given utterance, it can map it to a corresponding entity.
