Poker is a card game in which the object of the game is to obtain the best hand from a combination of five cards. The lowest possible hand in a hand of poker is a pair of aces or a pair of sevens. Other hands are higher if a player has two different pairs. In a tie, the person with the highest pair of cards wins. However, a tie can occur when no player has a pair. High hands of the same suit are also able to break a tie.<\/p>\n
The game originated in Germany during the 16th century. It was later brought to the United States by Frenchmen who played it on riverboats on the Mississippi. Eventually, it was called “Poque”. The game has hundreds of variations, including stud and community cards. The game can be played for pennies or in professional tournaments for thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n
When playing poker, the dealer is referred to as the house dealer. During casual games, this role is rotated among the players. A white disk is used to indicate the dealer, and it also determines betting order. Typically, a player will place money into the pot only if they intend to bluff another player.
