Poker is a card game played by two or more players. It is a game of chance with elements of skill and strategy. A good poker player maximises the value of winning hands and minimises losses from losing hands. This is called minmax.<\/p>\n
To begin the game each player places an ante into the pot (representing money) which starts betting intervals. There are usually 2 mandatory bets called blinds placed into the pot by the two players to the left of the dealer. After these bets are made, each player is dealt 5 cards. They may then discard their own cards or draw replacement cards. This is done before or during a betting round depending on the game.<\/p>\n
A poker hand contains five cards and the rank is determined by their relative probability (probability). The suits do not matter. The highest hand wins, unless there is a tie between two equal hands, in which case the players share any winnings.<\/p>\n
The game of poker has many different tactics that players can use to mislead or deceive their opponents. For example, a player with a weak hand might bet small to keep the betting pool growing while another player might bluff in order to scare players away from calling their bets.
