Poker is a card game in which players wager chips (money) and the highest poker hand wins. It\u2019s a game of incomplete information, as you don\u2019t know your opponents\u2019 cards or their strategy. It\u2019s also a game of psychology, as players try to read their opponents\u2019 betting and body language.<\/p>\n
The basic rule is that you ante something (the amount varies by game, but in our games it\u2019s usually a nickel) and then bet into the pot when it\u2019s your turn to act. You can raise, call or fold. You can even \u201copen\u201d a bet (raise it without anyone else having raised before you) or you can simply check.<\/p>\n
If you raise a bet, say “I call” or \u201ccall” to match it. Then put the same amount of money in the pot as the last player did. If you check, you stay in the pot and wait for someone to bet before raising again.<\/p>\n
