Poker is a card game in which players wager chips (representing money) on the outcome of a hand. The game is played with a standard pack of 52 cards, plus one or more wild cards (jokers) in some games. Each player has two hidden cards, called hole cards, which they will use in conjunction with the community cards to form their poker hand. The highest ranked poker hand wins. The game is traditionally played in a casino or home with a minimum of five players. Before the cards are dealt, each player must place an initial amount of money into the pot, depending on the rules of the particular game. This is known as a forced bet and is called an ante, blind or bring-in.<\/p>\n
Once the players have their two hole cards, a round of betting begins with the player to the left of the dealer. The dealer then deals another card to each player face up, and the second round of betting begins.<\/p>\n
Each player must decide whether to call, raise or fold their hand after a betting interval. If no players open, then betting ceases and the showdown occurs when all players reveal their cards.<\/p>\n
To win a poker hand, it is necessary to bet aggressively so that other players either think you are bluffing or give in to your demand for value.
