Poker is a card game in which players place bets on the outcome of hands. A hand consists of five cards. The value of a hand is in inverse proportion to its mathematical frequency; the more unusual the combination, the higher the rank. The players may bet that they have the best hand, or they may bluff. The player with the highest hand wins the pot. The pot is a pool of bets placed by the players.<\/p>\n
The rules of poker differ from one variation to another, but all have the same basic elements. Each player takes turns betting. The first player to make a bet must either call the previous player\u2019s bet or raise it. Players can also bluff in the hope that other players will fold their hands. This is known as a \u201cbad beat.\u201d<\/p>\n
In most cases, the players are seated in a circle and the cards are dealt one at a time. The turn to deal and the turn to bet pass from player to player in clockwise order. The dealer has the last right to shuffle. The player to the left of the dealer may cut if he chooses.<\/p>\n
A standard pack consists of 53 cards, including the joker, which counts as an ace unless it is used to form a flush (five consecutive cards of the same suit), three of a kind, or two pair.
