Why People With Type O Blood Are Uniquely Special

Every two second here in the US someone needs a blood transfusion. That being said for some reason we covet Type O blood, why is that?

Well for one there is a host of issues that come along with being Typo O. People with this blood type are prone to ulcers, low hormone levels, thyroid issues, weight issues, water retention, and things of that sort. All of the negatives aside there is something wonderful about this blood type.

You see, all blood is made of the same basic elements but there are four major groups. These groups are told apart by the presence or absence of two antigens A and B on the surface of the red blood cells. Type O has neither A nor B antigens on their red cells but has both A and B antibodies in the plasma. This means that people with this blood type can donate their blood to any blood type while other blood types can only donate to their blood type. Type O negative is the universal red cell donor. No matter what blood type you have you can accept O negative transfusions.

Sadly though this blood type is not as common as we would like to think, it is actually quite rare. This all being said no matter your blood type donating blood saves lives. Donate if you can! For more on this please take the time to watch the video below.
