In a video clip filmed in St. Petersburg, Russian president Vladimir Putin warns that “we are in grave danger” due to his belief that the United States may be lying about its nuclear capabilities. Furthermore, he reveals that Russia has been working towards the development of new generation warfare.

According to Putin, many conflicts have been avoided throughout the past few decades due to a balance of power that once existed. He states that the two major nuclear superpowers in the world had agreed to cease the production of offensive weaponry, as well as the production of defensive weaponry. Unfortunately, in a very ominous message, he goes on to explain why this agreement is no longer effective.

“It’s simple how it works- where one side becomes dominant in their military potential, they are more likely to want to be the first, to be able to use such power.”

He insists that he understands that it is not in his “nature to scold someone,” however, he feels that when the “United States unilaterally withdrew from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty of 1972, they delivered a colossal blow to the entire system of international security.”

It is based on this, that he believes the balance of power has shifted, causing a disruption in the level of peace held in the world.

Putin also explains how he has made attempts towards reaching an agreement with the United States but explains that no agreement could be reached. “We offered real solutions to stop this [arms race]. They rejected everything we had to offer,” he added.

“They are always saying ‘we must protect ourselves from the Iranian nuclear threat!’”

“Where’s the threat? There is no Iranian nuclear threat.”

And it is no secret that if tensions continue to rise between the United States and Russia that we could be on the verge of a second cold war. Others have even speculated that the third world war could be between Russia, China, and the U.S. He explains that he feels as if “nobody wants that,” continuing, he says that Russia “certainly does not want that.”
