Scientists Say Time Travel is Possible and This is How to Do It


    Time travel is a subject that many people remain puzzled by. However, there are my scientists and other experts that agree that time travel is not only possible but that it may have already been done.

    Oftentimes, when people think of Time Travel, they familiarize it with science fiction movies and television shows like Star Trek, Doctor Who and Back to the Future. Because of this, much of our idea regarding the subject is a situation in which someone steps into a strange time machine and then selects a specific time period to visit. The characters then zoom off into the future, to visit their cousins or uncles while they were young children.

    Unfortunately, if you were looking forward to this particular ideal, you may be out of like. The true nature of time travel is quite a bit more complicated than that.

    First, we must understand relativity. As Einstein explained, time is an illusion. While looking at Einstein’s theory of relativity, which was developed in 1905, we can better understand the fact that time moves at different rates for different people. Therefore, moving forward in time would be much easier than to move backward. Think about it, if you left Earth and went to space, and then came back, you may have only been gone for a few years, but decades may have passed on Earth.

    Physicists have referred to this as the “Twins Paradox” because if you had a twin on Earth, you would return to see your future self, while you were still young. However, there is only one problem with being able to see your future self, and that would be that you would have to travel faster than the speed of life which isn’t possible.
    While speaking about this, theoretical physicist Brian Greene of Columbia University explained,

    “You can build a spaceship, go out into space [and travel] near the speed of light, turn around and come back.

    “Imagine you go out for six months and you turn around and you come back for six months.”

    As you travel at the speed of light, time would stay slow for those who are still on Earth. In turn, you would be going fast while your clock would continue to go at a normal rate.

    “When you step out of your ship, you’re one year older but Earth has gone through many, many years.

    “It can have gone through 10,000, 100,000 or a million years depending on how close to the speed of light you traveled.”

    The reason that this is currently impossible, is because it would require an unimaginable amount of energy to withstand travel at such a fast rate. Furthermore, the force of such speeds would prove to be fatal for the human body.

    But there is another way, according to science. However, it also requires space travel. According to Einstein, if you positioned yourself on the edge of a black hole, time would pass more slowly. Professor Greene also expanded on the subject by stating,

    “You hang out [next to a black hole] for a while, you come back, get out of your ship and it will be any number of years into the future, whatever you want all depending on how close you got to the edge of the black hole and how long you hung out there.

    “That is time travel to the future.”

    Traveling back in time is a bit more difficult, according to Greene. He states that no one has proven that it’s impossible, but proposals that elaborate on it don’t fall in line with the laws of physics. However, someone has already traveled to the future, as Sergei Krikalev was in space for 803 days, 9 hours and 39 minutes. His craft traveled around 7.66 km/s while it orbited Earth, and because of his craft’s high speed and the amount of time he was gone, he arrived back on Earth 0.02 seconds into the future thanks to dilation.
