Stem cell research is something that we should have been studying for the past two decades. However, there was ethical controversy over the topic that caused quite the bump in the road for stem cell research. But not for long!

There is no doubting that the ethical questioning of stem cell research caused a tremendous halt in the research. However, those days are now in the past. Scientists at  a Biotech company based in the United States have been granted ethical permission to begin the research to attempt to stimulate and regrow neurons by manipulating stem cells. The research study will be performed on 20 brain-dead patients.

This technique is new and untested so it will likely bring about controversy, as usual. They will perform the procedure by implanting stem cells in the patient’s brain. They will additionally be treating the patient’s spinal cord with infusions of chemicals and nerve stimulant techniques. They will be using two techniques, both of which have successfully brought people out of a coma.

The result? Bringing the dead back to life.

This is no Pet Cemetery, it is an extremely extensive research study. Bioquark CEO, Ira Pastor comments:

“To undertake such a complex initiative, we are combining biologic regenerative medicine tools with other existing medical devices typically used for stimulation of the central nervous system, in patients with other severe disorders of consciousness. We hope to see results within the first two to three months.” He added, “it is a long-term vision of ours that a full recovery in such patients is a possibility, although that is not the focus of this first study. It is a bridge to that eventuality.”
