One of the greatest mysteries of all time is the Ancient Pyramids of Giza. People have hypothesized how these gigantic architectural masterpieces were built. However, experts believe they finally know how they were built.

The ancient pyramids have probably had people baffled ever since they were built back in 2600 B.C. One of the most confusing parts about the architecture of the pyramids is that the limestone it was built with was extracted eight miles away! Not only that, but the granite that was used was extracted from over 500 miles away in Aswan! This stone weighed massive amounts, tons even! It has had researchers and people in general astonished for thousands of years because nobody knows how they transported it! Well, until now.

Researchers discovered new evidence suggesting that thousands of workers transported the limestone along the Nile river in wooden boats! The laborers built the boats out planks and rope. Even more interesting, is that they had a system of canals that were specifically built to ferry the 2.5-ton blocks to an inland port built near the base of the pyramid! The stone was also used to build Pharaoh Khufu’s tomb in Giza, modern-day Cairo.

Archaeologists got this information when they discovered a scroll written by someone named Merer. The scroll is the only piece of recorded history to explain how the stone was moved.

“We’ve outlined the central canal basin, which we think was the primary delivery area to the foot of the Giza Plateau,” says archaeologist Mark Lehner states in his series outlining the entire discovery!
