Psychopaths Prefer Rap Music to Classical, According to Recent Study

Have you ever wondered what your music taste told people about you? While we might assume it reveals something, this was most definitely not what we had in mind.  Could your music taste reveal whether or not you are a psychopath?

According to a more recent study, if you are a huge fan of the song “No Diggity” you are a lot more likely than those who do not when it comes to being a psychopath. Just in case somehow you are not quite sure what song I am talking about you can check out the video below. If you thought psychopaths would have a weird taste in music you are probably mistaken.

Research coming from Channel 4 in the UK using over 3 million participants for their research noticed something quite interesting. When each participant took a psychopathy test those who scored highly on this test were actually more likely to favor rap music and heavy metal while the least psychopathic individuals preferred jazz and classical. This makes sense when we look at the study mentioned above.

You see researchers at the New York University looked at specific songs as a means of taking this a step further. They studied 200 people and about 260 songs. To support the findings above they found that those who scored highly on their psychopath tests preferred songs like No diggity and Lose Yourself. Those who scored the lowest were more interested in songs like Titanium. This research was done in hopes of working out a method to identifying psychopaths a bit easier but of course, more research will still need to be carried out.

“The beauty of this idea is you can use it as a screening test without consent, cooperation or maybe even the knowledge of the people involved.”

“The ethics of this are very hairy, but so is having a psychopath as a boss, and so is having a psychopath in any position of power.”

While you cannot currently diagnose others or yourself through music interests alone, this is quite interesting. What do you think about all of this? I, for one, am very excited to see how it progresses! Who knows? Maybe someday we will be able to identify a psychopath by listening to their playlist.
