The picture, taken in Lake Khanto, in Noyabrsk, central Russia, appears to show a long neck with a head on the end – just like the stereotypical image of Nessie.
There is also said to be something behind the ‘neck’ that looks like the hump that has featured in other Loch Ness Monster photographs.
People have come from all over the globe to hunt for the monster on the shores of Loch Ness in Scotland.
However, the object in the Russian image appears white rather than the grey-green of Nessie.
The bizarre “beast” is white – unlike the Loch Ness Monster, which is usually pictured with darker, green skin.
Runner Dmitry Kim was on his morning jog at Lake Khanto, in the city of Noyabrsk, when he saw the object – and took a snap on his mobile phone.
According to the Daily Star, he said: “The silhouette of this creature reminded me of the Loch Ness Monster.
“It was standing there and wasn’t moving.”
Sceptics have blamed the event on swans, saying they used to come to the lake, but Dmitry said it looked nothing like the long-necked bird.
One online poster, called Han argued companies drain their waste in that lake, which creates a great atmosphere for monsters to grow.”
Another with the user name yzuken456 said: “Maybe that was a local mermaid.”
Petrushka added: “I think this creature is a guest from Alaska.
“At least it is way closer to visit from than the Scottish Highlands.”
