No matter what all relationships have rough patches. Some make it through these rough patches and others end up getting so damaged that moving forward together is not an option.

No, I am not saying that everyone cheats and I am not justifying it, but sometimes those rough patches to lead to cheating and there is nothing we can do about it. A research team from Israel actually looked into different reasons as to why people who were tempted to cheat managed to resist the urge and discovered something quite interesting. Their findings were published in the Journal of Sex Research and during their study, they were also able to come to a conclusion on about when the most likely point in a marriage men and women were most at risk of cheating altogether.

For this study, these researchers asked 423 participants to answer a simple questionnaire. In this questionnaire, they were to rate the importance of 29 different reasons to avoid or resist cheating in general and go over the likelihood of them cheating depending on whether or not the opportunity were to arise. Their findings showed that most people would resist being unfaithful because of the fear of being single as well as their moral compasses.

These results also showed that for women the window of time they were most likely to cheat was between the 6-10 year mark. Now, for men, they were most likely to cheat after 11 years. For those who do not know after the 7th year of marriage, most people begin feeling distant with their spouse on some level, so these findings actually make a lot of sense.

A survey that was done earlier this year actually gave some insight on why people cheat and to be honest it is for the reason you would think. Most women who cheat do so because they are not feeling as if they are getting enough attention from their partner. Men, on the other hand, reported cheating more because the other person was ‘really hot.’ This survey was conducted by Superdrug’s Online Doctor and included over 2,000 European and American participants.

You can see the top five reasons listed for each gender as reported by those who took this survey in the image below. You will most likely notice a huge difference between the men’s reasons and the woman’s reasons. To be honest, these findings are a bit sad but the saddest part was that 71 percent of American men who cheated for the most terrible reasons said they wished they could take it back.
