M6.3 – South of the Fiji Islands is the first major quake of 2017 and with a large coronal hole stretching more than halfway across the face of the sun more major quakes will be on the cards in the coming days.

The large hole in the sun’s atmosphere is turning toward Earth. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory photographed the yawning structure on Jan. 2nd

At the end of last month a massive coronal hole was responsible for nine major quakes in the space of a week.
